soooooo happy this isn't what you wear to the opera?

soooooo happy this isn't what you wear to the opera?

If- you- are- happy-that-you-didn’t-get-Ebola-and-you-know-it?

January 26, 2015

There was a minute when Ebola seemed like a thing, right? Like it was on it’s way. When there was that Dr. and the case and it was in the news and we were worried. And then they got him. And then they quarantined a bunch of people. And then it all got better and then it went away?

Guess where Ebola didn’t go away? SIERRA LEONE.

I’m not here to say all of Africa and poverty and disease is your problem - it isn’t.

I’m not here to say that giving charity and the way we give charity is not flawed - it is.

I’m not here to add to the list of shit things you feel badly about in this world - that’s all you.

But I am saying that we share a world. The Ebola panic was a small window into another side of our global connectedness. When something exists in the world, it also exists in our world, and Ebola still exists.

I created this 'tool of life' bedazzled Ebola suit for the imagined time that never happened. But that imagined time is not an impossible time. And I am here to tell you there is still something you can do.

If you are still moved to help those that are still facing the Ebola, check out Shine On Sierra Leone and Dr. Dan Kelly’s approach in Kono, Sierra Leone. They are looking at supporting communities to lead and take control over their health. They are working in this way so that things don’t get this bad ever again.  They are working to foster community trust and learning, so that the international community doesn’t have to step in so aggressively ever again.

So if you are happy that you didn’t get Ebola and you know it, think about showing it.

Support the Ebola Home Health Kit Campaign

Check out Shine On Sierra Leone and their health partner, Dr. Kelly's work with Wellbody alliance was featured on the CBS Evening News on September 16.

Invest in the people like Shine On trying to build a new infrastructure in a place where health care really sucks so that no one has to worry about Ebola in the future. Give to the things building strength, respect and independence now so no one has to ask you for money to help people in other places again.

Or you can order this HOT SUIT!
